Your Tour

As I promised, here are some of the landmarks of Mebane. I'm afraid to say that I left out Dollar General and Wal-Mart. You'll just have to use your imagination. If you want to follow along, look up "Mebane, NC" on Google Maps. If you zoom in close enough after going to "Mebane, NC" you can click on a little yellow man to give you a 3-D view of some of the main streets going through Mebane. If you've never done this before, it's pretty cool. Try it in your own town. Sorry, Thomasville doesn't have it.

This is South Mebane Elementary School. Aubrey will go here next fall.

This is our Arts and Community Center. (I originally called this the elementary school by mistake... thanks Mike). It's the center that Thomasville always wanted but has never managed to complete :)

Here is a view from Hwy 119, where it runs next to I-40/85. The restaurant is Smithfield's BBQ, which serves Carolina-style BBQ (vinegar based). We drive past it every day when we get on/off the interstate.

We have a Sonic... yummm! It's on the corner of Hwy 119 and Holmes. We drive past it every day too. Very temping every day!

La Cocina, our favorite sloppy Mexican! It's also on Hwy 119 near Sonic.

Yes, Mebane is big enough to have its own Post Office.

These are the soccer fields where Aubrey plays. They are really big on soccer here, and apparently the league here is pretty competitive with the rest of the State.

Here's our closest playground, near downtown off 3rd street. Nearby is a small museum featuring the history of Mebane, but we've never been there.

Our public library! It used to be manufacturing warehouse back in the day, but it was restored and renovated with a lot of the original interior into the library. We're card-carrying members.

Another angle of the Mebane library.

This is the King's Down mattress factory. They are headquartered here in Mebane. This view is looking away from downtown and the street is 3rd Street. This is where we stand during the Christmas parade. That truck is crossing the railroad tracks.

Another view of King's Down. You can also see the Veteran's Memorial on the left. This is where they put up the Mebane City Christmas Tree.

Aubrey's Dance Studio, Xtreme Dance. It is on Clay Street (like West Front Street in Thomasville). Steve meets his running group a couple stores down at the Sweet Tooth Bakery.

Here is a view down Clay Street, our main "downtown" area.

At the end of Clay street is the old White's Furniture Factory / Warehouse. This was the original industry that put Mebane on the map. Now it is empty and pretty run-down, but they are restoring it into shops and apartments.

Still Clay Street with some nice Crape Myrtles. (Dollar General is behind the trees)

Our Fire Department

A view of the railroad tracks, looking away from the fire department. Across the track is the Police Station, or "Jail" as Aubrey calls it.

Hope you enjoyed the tour! More polliwogs posts tomorrow. Stay tuned for possible backyard camping pictures if the rain holds off.

Welcome to Mebane! I was a newcomer myself back in the day - that was over 12 years ago! Time flies!

The 2nd picture is actually the Arts & Community Center (gymnasium and conference rooms) across from the soccer complex. EM Yoder is a great school - our oldest just aged out of there, and our third starts Kindergarten there this Fall.

Did you know the police station used to be the old post office? One of the cooler things the city did. A new PO was built as the town grew, but they preserved the old building and renovated it into a police station, moving them out of City hall - which along with moving the library out, gave the city government much more room. My understanding is after renovations at Lake Michael are complete, city hall will get a much needed make over.

Soccer definitely is big here. The complex you showed is already maxed out and the league is working to find additional fields to play on. We had over 850 kids register this year! I'm sure we'll bump into each other on the fields at some point. All four of our children play and I coach two teams :) I've been known to help out the league here and there as well!

Hi Mike, thanks for catching the mistake. We're enjoying living here and finding out what Mebane has to offer.
