Your Tour

As I promised, here are some of the landmarks of Mebane. I'm afraid to say that I left out Dollar General and Wal-Mart. You'll just have to use your imagination. If you want to follow along, look up "Mebane, NC" on Google Maps. If you zoom in close enough after going to "Mebane, NC" you can click on a little yellow man to give you a 3-D view of some of the main streets going through Mebane. If you've never done this before, it's pretty cool. Try it in your own town. Sorry, Thomasville doesn't have it.


This is South Mebane Elementary School. Aubrey will go here next fall.












This is our Arts and Community Center. (I originally called this the elementary school by mistake... thanks Mike). It's the center that Thomasville always wanted but has never managed to complete :)














Here is a view from Hwy 119, where it runs next to I-40/85. The restaurant is Smithfield's BBQ, which serves Carolina-style BBQ (vinegar based). We drive past it every day when we get on/off the interstate.









We have a Sonic... yummm! It's on the corner of Hwy 119 and Holmes. We drive past it every day too. Very temping every day!











La Cocina, our favorite sloppy Mexican! It's also on Hwy 119 near Sonic.














Yes, Mebane is big enough to have its own Post Office.













These are the soccer fields where Aubrey plays. They are really big on soccer here, and apparently the league here is pretty competitive with the rest of the State.










Here's our closest playground, near downtown off 3rd street. Nearby is a small museum featuring the history of Mebane, but we've never been there.










Our public library! It used to be manufacturing warehouse back in the day, but it was restored and renovated with a lot of the original interior into the library. We're card-carrying members.

This is the King's Down mattress factory. They are headquartered here in Mebane. This view is looking away from downtown and the street is 3rd Street. This is where we stand during the Christmas parade. That truck is crossing the railroad tracks.







Another view of King's Down. You can also see the Veteran's Memorial on the left. This is where they put up the Mebane City Christmas Tree.











Aubrey's Dance Studio, Xtreme Dance. It is on Clay Street (like West Front Street in Thomasville). Steve meets his running group a couple stores down at the Sweet Tooth Bakery.











Here is a view down Clay Street, our main "downtown" area.











At the end of Clay street is the old White's Furniture Factory / Warehouse. This was the original industry that put Mebane on the map. Now it is empty and pretty run-down, but they are restoring it into shops and apartments.

A view of the railroad tracks, looking away from the fire department. Across the track is the Police Station, or "Jail" as Aubrey calls it.
