Class of 2022

Steven posting again this time... Christy to follow at some point with pictures. We went to Aubrey's kindergarten orientation this morning. She was so excited! They split us up as soon as we got there, Aubrey and the kids in a classroom and parents in the library. Aubrey got to color and do crafts and meet other kids and teachers, basically have a lot of fun. Christy and I got to learn all about how this whole "school thing" is going to work. Jamie was great... he fell asleep near the end.

Most importantly, Aubrey is going to be a dragon (that's the school mascot). We explained to her that just as she is an Auburn Tiger, now she's also going to be a South Mebane Dragon. She liked that. Among other things, the orientation talked about a summer version of their aftercare program. They'll do all sorts of things like regular bowling, ice skating, movies, and trips to the library. They'll also have weekly field trips including the zoo, a farm, a couple museums, and a real mine where they'll get to dig for rocks (yeah, put'em to work!). It looks like a great way for her to get used to the school and meet some of her future classmates. There will be less "learning" then her current daycare, but maybe it will be good for her to have a summer of fun before school really starts. Best part is, it costs less than half what we're paying for daycare and the hours are still OK with our work schedule. Cha-ching!

During the orientation they showed a video of all the kindergarten staff and a "day in the life" of the kindergarten kids. At the end they put up "CLASS OF 2022." Christy almost started crying. Very weird to see your book of life opened up in front of you like that. I think I felt more like a grown-up then I ever have, and suddenly Aubrey seemed a lot older than she was yesterday.
